CURATION

CURATION

A passion for designing spaces, and atmospheres,  has led me to create platforms, events, exhibitions and workshops to welcome the community to not only enjoy art & culture and meet the artists, but as well bring in the aspect of wellness to enjoy a unique experience in the present moment. Jennifer enjoys being directly involved in each aspect that goes into planning an event from ideation, promotion, curation and hosting an unique experience. Below are a few examples of past curations both group & solo.

PAST CURATIONS

HANG IN THERE .

07/2020

CONCEPT- “Hang in there “ you know the saying that is said just before parting with someone, as a another way to say “don’t give up”.  This saying seemed to be going around, among a few others words, that ended up on repeat in my mind over the past several months under a solo quarantine during this pandemic. I had enough time on my hands to really think and reflect on language, the choice of words we used, how we used them and the general weight of them when you HEAR or READ them. As well, observing how it affects you, physically, mentally and emotionally, especially when your on your own, over long periods of time.  Call it a self induced inquiry, a project of sorts, that turned into a therapeutic healing plan in coping through a pandemic that was soaked in emotion and anxiety, and heavy in uncertainty.

The results of the research eventually made its way into a creative installation sensory experience, called “Hang in there”, in which I HUNG, at Nomads nation in a private event.  An event that in the end turned mainly into a healing performance to my own self therapy.

Please read the blog in which I explain the purpose for the installation, my creative process and the importance of writing as a healing too in coping through anxiety.

PERCEPTION

11/2019

CONCEPT - A 4 day POP- UP multidisciplinary artistic event that reveals the ways in which we each uniquely see and experience the world around us. Featuring a program that consists of photography, installations, performances, film, music and process talks.

Biologically everyone perceives images the same way. Visual sensory perception is based on the functions of the eye – light enters the eye, hits the cells of the retina, and the brain interprets the impulses of those optical cells into coherent, understandable forms. Differences in the perception of images arise from the cognitive aspect of perception – the interpretation of what those images mean. The way we perceive the world can depend on where we come from, our experiences, age, values, culture, and or our social and religious background to name a few. Each artists was welcome to exhibit

On Nov 14th-17th, I had the pleasure to host, curate and participate in an 4 day pop up artistic event called PERCEPTION. With the amazing help of a collective of talented artists and friends the show was a success and a beautiful experience. Each artist giving the viewer a glimpse of their unique visions and perceptions on life. I want to thank all the participating artists Nils Fluck, Sharif Mirshak, Christian Pomerleau ,Hugues Letellier François Guinaudeau ,Mustafa Hacalaki, Noé Sardet, Mauricio de sierra, Christopher "puma" Smith, for contributing your work, efforts and time into making this a realization.

JUST LIVIN PROJECT

11/2014

Concept- The project's intention was to receive and exhibit photography on the theme " Just Living."  What did this word mean to you in your life and how would you describe it in imagery.  It was a great success for a few reasons.  I left it without a boundary on skill level of the photographer.  So I welcomed anyone from novice to advanced.  I also left it limitless with the subject matter as it was really up to the viewer  what being alive look like or perhaps even felt like for them.  In the end I received over 45 images.  Exhibiting for viewing on  October 2nd.  I also asked for people to  submit brief stories or descriptions of their photos if they wanted to.  I think it was important to tell a bit about why you chose that photo.  The community of Project Vivant became that much bigger with the idea of leaving things more inclusive to all then exclusive to a few.

PASSPORT PHOTOS

07/2006

Concept - In 2003, I had the pleasure to travel around the world for one year. I followed the sun, beginning in Japan, and made my way back to Canada. Stopping along the way to explore, South East Asia, teach & trek and volunteer in Nepal, then onwards to Europe, Czec republic, and back to Canada. Immersing myself into different art & cultures, connecting with the locals, learning about all the religions, and seeing and experiencing moments that were once in a lifetime. On my return, I decided that i should get a job at a local photography lab, so I could develop all my ( FILM ), as well learn more about photography and the process. This experience was invaluable for the people I met and the things I learnt. In the end I decided to put together a show that was inspired by my trip, called PASSPORTS PHOTOS. I was sponsored by a printing company called ( West Canadian). An affiliate of the photography lab I was working at called Vistek. My invite was in the designed to look like an actual passport. You can view a lot of the photos from this journey on this website under TRAVEL. Very soon, i will be creating a page in in which you can READ about these experiences that occurred on this journey around the world, through photo essays. Stay tuned.
